Come listen to Palestinian activists from the West Bank, Mira Dabit and Hanna Qassis, who will share with us the challenges facing students and young people who live under Israel’s military occupation, and who struggle to put an end to it.

By supporting divestment, they stand with student activists from across the US, who have been pushing their campuses to divest from Israeli occupation, as well as student activists in Palestin…e, such as Mira and Hanna, whose very right to an education and ability to be a student is profoundly impacted by the Israeli occupation. Mira and Hanna’s stories provide a compelling argument for why we divest, and why all of us who struggle for peace and justice in the region should divest, as well.

Hanna Qassis is from the town of Birzeit, Palestine. He graduated from Birzeit University in 2006 with a BA in Business Administration, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in International Studies, also at Birzeit University. In addition to working for the Academy for Educational Development in the West Bank, Hanna is a political and youth activist and volunteers with several Palestinian civil society organizations.

Born in Jerusalem to a refugee family originally from the 1948 city of Al Lod, Mira Dabit has been an political and youth worker, as well as a folkloric storyteller for many years. She received her BA in psychology and sociology from Birzeit University, and upon graduation went to live and volunteer in Ireland, north and south, where she worked with community initiatives for three years. Now, Mira has returned to Palestine and to continue her work and activism with the Right to Education campaign at Birzeit University, with theater projects for youth and with other initiatives that strive to make marginalized voices heard.
